Parashuram - Sixth Avatar of Lord Vishnu

Mythology is one of my favorite genres to read and explore. It has hidden and profound meaning in its stories and characters.

I feel the character Parusuram is underrated compared to the other characters like Rama and Krishna. Probably, It is because we idealize and relate with  Rama and Krishna as characters more than the other Vishnu Avatars.

Nonetheless, Parashuram is aggressive than other Vishnu Avatars. He was born to Jamadagni and Renuka Devi, and the last among his five brothers. He was born brahmin but had traits of a Kshatriya. The purpose of Parashurama's avatar was to destroy evil. Evil was in the form of the Kshatriya class abusing power and showing arrogance.

Parashurama went around the world, killing evil Kshatriya kings, restoring Dharma, and cosmic equilibrium.

Story of Karthavirya Arjuna - King with several Hands

Karthavirya Arjuna was one of Kshatriya kings, who visited Jamadagni's ashram and was surprised by the hospitality shown by him. Jamadagni fed all the men who came along with Karthavirya Arjuna with several delicious dishes.  Karthavirya was clueless about how a poor brahmin living in an ashram can feed hundreds of people.

Karthavirya went to the backyard of the ashram to find the secret behind it. He found a wish-granting cow known as Kamadenu. Renuka Devi, who was the wife of Jamadagni, whispered dish names in the ear of the cow. It immediately delivered them.

Stunned by this, Karthavirya wanted to steal the cow. Karthavirya stole the cow and severed the head of Jamadagni in the process.  Parashuram knowing this was furious and went out to avenge the death of his father.
He found Karthavirya and cut all his thousand hands. Karthivirya, who won over Ravana, could not stand Parashurama.  Parashuram cut off Karthavirya's head, thus killing him.

Parshuram is considered immortal and, he is also the Guru of Drona, Bhishma, and Karna.

A thought passed through my mind when I was having a conversation with one of my friends. I am a big movie buff and also an avid reader. I started to analyse what helps me to be rational and increase creativity. Movies are attractive and are pleasing to our eyes. Books, on the other hand, they are just plain text and a lot more tedious. Comparing both books and movies, Books give us time to imagine also helps to increase creativity. For example, Looking at an orange shown and imagining an orange written in the text are two different things. For both of us, Orange can be different. If you see it in a movie, it is just how it is shown. There is no time for creative juices to flow. You have to see what the director wants you to see. Just think, what is your forte? What do you enjoy most books/movies? I have given the reason why I love books more than movies.:)

Cycling - Is it just an activity?

Cycling and life are synonymous when it is juxtaposed metaphorically. Cycling has turned out to be my recent obsession after books. I realized how important it is for me to have a trip with myself. Sometimes,  Solitude can solve problems or at least promote clear thinking. For me, Cycling turned out to be one such activity where I retrospect my day and plan it. Cycling and music go hand in hand. I now calculate the distance of my travel with the number of songs. If you know me, You might consider my cycling activity, as my initial excitement that comes after you buy something brand new.  But, I have found a solution to this problem, which is to make cycling a part of my daily routine.  " Pain is inevitable, whereas Suffering is optional " is one of my favorite quotes of  Murakami. The beauty of this quote is it applies to everything you do in life. Whatever activity you take up, It pains, but to suffer because it is up to you. Don't give up. It is not my intentio...

Why I read Newspaper ?

Amidst of Corona Pandemic, I have better reasons now to support my idea of reading a newspaper over reading social media posts for news and information. Whatsapp and twitter have gone deep into people's lives that they don't need anything else to know information and news. Unfortunately, They don't realise that they are infamous tools to spread misinformation and rumours. I understand that it takes a little more effort to read a newspaper article over a WhatsApp forward. But, Let me tell you it is worth the effort, as you get closer to the factual information. Call me old fashioned or someone more concerned with factual information. Generally, I like to examine the facts in the article before believing it. Online articles getting shorter with every passing day, we must switch to better reliable sources like a newspaper. I would personally recommend everyone to read the editorial section as it covers a variety of news/perspectives. I still think newspapers are ...
