[Review] 'Behind the Scenes' by Sharmishta Shenoy

The title of the book infers to story either about theatre or films.If you have thought about it, then you are right.This book is third from Shenoy in her forte of the Crime thriller.

The story is set in Darjeeling where the murder takes place in a film set.Vikram Rana, the main lead is drawn to investigate the issue.The investigation pans back to Calcutta post-murder.The rest of the story is all about how Rana finds the Killer.

Shenoy's narrative has always been simple and crisp.She actually follows a pattern just like most of the crime thrillers.It has characters who look suspicious and has the motive to kill the victim.The rest of it is about how the lead character with help of clues/investigations finds the murderer.However, This story is slightly different from the way it is.It has one major twist in the story which is unexpected and thrilling.Finally, The book ends with the confessions made by the murderer.A reader who is into crime fiction would be aware of this style(Especially if you have read Agatha Christie).

The major hiccup for a writer in such genres is to keep the reader hooked through the book.Shenoy does a great job in doing that.It is a good book for starters who would like to explore crime thrillers and a decent read for others. You can watch the book review here.

Cycling - Is it just an activity?

Cycling and life are synonymous when it is juxtaposed metaphorically. Cycling has turned out to be my recent obsession after books. I realized how important it is for me to have a trip with myself. Sometimes,  Solitude can solve problems or at least promote clear thinking. For me, Cycling turned out to be one such activity where I retrospect my day and plan it. Cycling and music go hand in hand. I now calculate the distance of my travel with the number of songs. Why I read Newspaper ?

Amidst of Corona Pandemic, I have better reasons now to support my idea of reading a newspaper over reading social media posts for news and information. Whatsapp and twitter have gone deep into people's lives that they don't need anything else to know information and news. Unfortunately, They don't realise that they are infamous tools to spread misinformation and rumours. I understand that it takes a little more effort to read a newspaper article over a WhatsApp forward. But, Let me tell you it is worth the effort, as you get closer to the factual information. Call me old fashioned or someone more concerned with factual information. Generally, I like to examine the facts in the article before believing it. Online articles getting shorter with every passing day, we must switch to better reliable sources like a newspaper.
